Cross-Media Work Experience

During my MA at Sheffield and in the time following I completed various work experience placements throughout the industry.

Both in order to gain BJTC-accreditation and to learn more about the different roles and responsibilities within the newsroom.

• Global (2024 - 2025)

  • • Assisted with the production of LBC News over the August bank holiday weekend in 2025.

    • Booking guests, writing scripts for the programme and compiling information. Responded to national and international breaking news stories.

    • In 2024 I also spent two days at Global learning from the news team and LBC. During this time I learnt from the news reading, digital and production teams. I also edited audio and read bulletins. 

• PA Media (2024 - 2025)

  • • Completed an initial placement at PA Media in July 2024, followed by specialised role shadowing in March 2025.

    • Shadowed reporters and video journalists in court, at inquests, doorstepping and at press conferences. Learnt how to produce commercial video news packages. Conducted vox pops for national stories.

• BBC Radio 2 (2025)

  • Sat in on the Jeremy Vine show, shadowing the production assistants, learning how the daily news agenda is decided and understanding the essentials of phone-in based talk radio.

• BBC Radio London (2025)

  • Sat in on the Eddie Nestor show, shadowing the team and learning all the different roles and responsibilities of running a daily current-affairs based radio show. Developed a deeper understanding of how local news operates in comparison to national news programmes.

  • Successfully pitched my own local news stories with consideration for audience, key values and potential treatments.

• Radio News Hub (2024)

  • During work experience I helped to clip, research and script news bulletins that were broadcast to 400 stations based in both local, national and international regions. Interviewed both experts and national organisations on news topics, and voiced some stories.

  • This included researching, clipping and scripting material for the 2024 general election, and finding stories for Spanish radio stations. 

• Channel 5 News (2024)

  • • Shadowed various areas of the newsroom including the planning team, production team, reporters and camera crew.

    • Assisted with interviewing, guest booking, guest briefing and location booking.

• Exposed Magazine (2024)

  • • At Exposed Magazine I wrote articles, researched local news and conducted interviews for their digital and print output.

    • This included a photography feature interview, local theatre updates, music, listicles, pride month articles and business information. 

• KMFM (2023)

  • I shadowed the news team, wrote scripts, edited  audio for bulletins and practiced reading the news.

  • The opportunity to see how a commercial radio station worked on a day-to-day basis was incredibly useful and helped me to understand the industry further.
